I came to this job thinking of teaching and completing some research topics I had in mind. Well, I didn’t know that the hardest part of my job would be to convincing the students (even graduate students) that I am here to help them and that they have to stick with some simple principles like doing their assignments.
Since when has teaching become baby-sitting? That’s really not what I was here for. I know no one is perfect but, hey, give me a break! Don’t you give me a paper at 10:00 PM of the day before a conference due day and tell me you going out tomorrow. What does that mean? I am an unpaid proofreader? What I have been doing is to cultivate and help students with their professional development. Ah!…so what students want is fun, and more fun? What’s the point of taking a degree program, then? Especially a graduate one?
I had several close teachers with different styles. Looks my advising style needs some serious work.
