“Add object property” button missing.

I was following the pizza tutorial from U. of Manchester (version 1.3) on creating the pizza tutorial ontology. Couple bumps have been on the way but this missing of “Add object property” seems to bug me a lot.

A search with my dear friend Google returns a useful instruction on how to create the object property:
1). (instead of trying to find the missing “Add object property” button,) Go to the Object Properties tab.
2). In the Object property hierarchy pane on the left-hand side, select “topObjectProperty”.
3). Use the “Add sub property” button to create object properties. <link>

This solution is from Jennifer Vendetti, an administrator of the Stanford protege-owl mailing list (the link above is their archive). This answer to Mila Johns does not mention the difference in interface. I can see that Jennifer is using Windows version of Protege like I do and she has only 3 buttons on the top of the Object property hierarchy tab like I do, as opposing to the tutorial’s Mac’s 5 buttons.

2. It looks like Mac is the preferred platform in the world of Protege. I’ve got to find its superiority to go with the crowd. ^^

Joke: iTunes does not have a pause button

So what’s the idea behind this? You can play music but can not pause unless you move your mouse cursor to the song and right click to bring up the menu and hit Pause? With Spacebar that means I’ll have to be in Music mode, which happens to be not the default mode for me when opening. I am using iTunes 10.5.1.42 with Windows 7. Some smart guy tell me the reasoning of the designer here? What’s wrong with a Pause button?

(Ah, also, there’s also a need for Delete key function on iPhone/iPad.)
(Oh, and what’s wrong with a two-button mouse?)

Zotero Standalone

Tested it, not impressed. I hope it’s never done…
I know, I know…I am using Firefox for Zotero only. Without Zotero FF would disappear from my applications.
Don’t get me wrong, I still love FF. It’s just the slowness and the crashes have become unbearable.
I do hope FF gets popular again just like when it first tackled IE with the ad on New York Times.
Wouldn’t it be nice if FF plays a come-back just like John Travolta?

2.5 hours

I did an interview of 2.5 hours.
No kidding!
No wonder I felt a little tired in the interview.
If I knew it has been 2.5 hours, I’d pass out right there.
I thought I was tired and a little weak lately.

The interviewee, an older gentleman of a major Japanese company in Taiwan, is certainly one of the best I have seen.
He knows what he is doing and he uses his language well.
Notably speaking with a tone slow and firm.
A Taiwanese well-educated by Japanese.
A well-educated Taiwanese.
A well-educated person.

I was doing a apt-get dist-upgrade and was asked by one of the upgrade jobs to choose whether or not to take the default package configuration or to keep my own configuration. I chose to take a look at how different those two were and wasn’t able to come back by press enter on the OK. So I Control-C it to come out of the window–bad idea. I received this message:

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run ‘dpkg –configure -a’ to correct the problem.

Took me a while and some googling to try to find out what’s wrong with it. I run “dpkg –configure -a” and couldn’t get myself out of it. At the end, with the help from this post, I learned that I’ve forgotten to put “sudo” in front of it. Big time…

Why Aptana uses Character Encoding MS950 by default?

There must be reason for Aptana to use MS950 as default character encoding instead of UTF-8, but I don’t know. I was having problem opening my PHP files after a fresh installation of Aptana 2.0. Took care of it like this:

I had this error message: [an error occurred while processing this directive] while I tried to access my homepage, which was an issue I thought I took care of long time ago. I thought I changed some .htaccess content before for security reasons, so I was trying to figure out what I did wrong with it. It took me some time but I finally found this page and reset my file permission of index.php to 644 and it started working. Strange, though…who changed the file permission? Me?
